Kame-dake

Kame-dake

A district in Okuizumo Town, Nita County, in the southeastern part of Shimane Prefecture. Formerly known as Kamedake Village. It is the birthplace of the Unshu abacus, with a history of 100 years, and even today, the area is known for its handmade abacus. Kamedake Onsen springs gush out on the outskirts of the district. National Route 432 passes through the area, and JR Kisuki Line Kamedake Station is located there. Kamedake is also featured in Seicho Matsumoto's novel "Vessel of Sand," and there is a monument to the novel.

島根県南東部、仁多(にた)郡奥出雲(おくいずも)町の一地区。旧亀嵩村。雲州そろばん(うんしゅうそろばん)の発祥地で、100年の歴史があり、現在も手作りのそろばんを特産する。地区のはずれに亀嵩温泉が湧(わ)く。国道432号が通じ、JR木次(きすき)線亀嵩駅がある。なお、亀嵩は松本清張の小説『砂の器』で取り上げられていて、その記念碑がある。
