Gimpo - Konoura

Japanese: 金浦 - このうら

The area is located in the southwestern corner of Akita Prefecture, in the northwest of Nikaho City. It faces the Sea of Japan. It was incorporated as a town in 1902. In 2005, it merged with Nikaho Town and Kisakata Town to form Nikaho City. There are many small hills formed by mudflows from Mt. Chokai. Land improvement work has been carried out and the lowlands have been turned into rice paddies. The area is famous for its green onions and figs. Konoura Port is one of the prefecture's leading fishing ports. Yuri Coast Wave-breaking Stone Wall, which straddles Nikaho and is said to have been built in the mid-Edo period, is designated as a national historic site. There is the birthplace of Antarctic Expedition leader Shirase Nobu and a monument to his achievements.

秋田県南西端，にかほ市北西部の旧町域。日本海に面する。 1902年町制。 2005年仁賀保町，象潟町と合体してにかほ市となった。鳥海山の泥流からなる小丘が多い。土地改良を進め，低地は水田化された。ネギ，イチジクを特産。金浦港は県内有数の漁港。仁賀保にまたがり，江戸時代中期に築造されたといわれる由利海岸波除石垣 (ゆりかいがんなみよけいしがき) は国の史跡に指定されている。南極探検隊長白瀬矗の生家とその偉功碑がある。
