Date of birth and death unknown. An Indian thinker from the 13th to 14th century. A scholar of the Nyaya school. In response to the scathing criticism of the theory of knowledge of Udayana (date of birth and death unknown) and others by Śrīharsha of the non-dual monist school, he wrote the Tattva-Cintamani as a rebuttal. This book consists of four parts, each of which discusses in detail the four means of knowledge: direct knowledge, inference, analogy, and language. He also devised a much stricter method of definition and terminology than had been used up to that point, and established the Naviya-Nyaya (neo-Nyaya) school. Thereafter, research into the theory of knowledge and logic was carried out in the form of commentaries on this great work.
