A treatment and nursing facility for the mentally handicapped located in Iwakura, north of Kyoto. There was a legend that a sacred spring called Akanoi, which never increases or decreases, located in the grounds of Daiunji Temple here, was extremely effective for eye diseases and mental disorders. In particular, in 1072 (Enkyu 4), when Emperor Gosanjo's third daughter, Princess Kako, was possessed by a spirit, the emperor prayed to the gods and Buddha, and received a divine revelation that she should drink the water from Akanoi every day, and she was instantly cured. People who heard this story began to invite mentally handicapped patients to Daiunji Temple to pray to the principal image and drink the sacred spring.
