A milky, mucous venom secreted in large quantities from the skin glands of toads, especially the parotid gland. Its components are various combinations of steroid glycosides and suberyl arginine, and known compounds include bufonin, bufagin, and bufotalin. It is used as a cardiac stimulant, and some also have strong hallucinogenic and respiratory stimulant effects.
