Carpenters - Carpenters (English spelling)

American vocal and instrumental group. Connecticut-born keyboardist and composer Richard C. Carpenter (1946- ), and his sister, singer and drummer Karen (1950-83), formed the group with the addition of some friends. After an amateur period, they released their first album in 1969. The following year, they became a popular group with consecutive hits "Ticket to Travel," "Distant Shadow," and "Prelude to Love." Following the tradition of American pop, they had a wide appeal and created their own unique sound and style, but the group's activities ceased when Karen died of illness.

アメリカのボーカルと器楽グループ。コネティカット州生まれのキーボード奏者・作曲家のリチャード・カーペンターRichard C.（1946―　）と妹の歌手・ドラム奏者カレンKaren（1950―83）が友人を加えて結成。アマチュア時代を経て1969年に初アルバムを発表。翌年『涙の乗車券』『遙(はる)かなる影』『愛のプレリュード』の連続ヒットで人気グループとなる。アメリカン・ポップスの伝統を継いで間口が広く、独自のサウンドとスタイルを創造したが、カレンの病死のためグループ活動は停止した。
