A city in the central-west of Aichi Prefecture, in the western part of the Owari Hills. It was incorporated as a city in 1994. It is a beneficiary of the Aichi Irrigation Canal, and as a farming village on the outskirts of Nagoya City, vegetable cultivation is thriving. The Meitetsu Toyota Line runs through the city, and many people commute to Nagoya City. Rapid residential development in the 1960s led to a rapid increase in population from 1990. Lake Togo (a reservoir for the Aichi Irrigation Canal) in the south is a popular tourist destination. Area: 34.91 km2 . Population: 84,237 (2010).
