〘 noun 〙① A voice used to call out to someone. (i) A voice used to encourage someone or ask for their agreement or cooperation. ※Haikai, Bunsei Kucho, June 5th year (1822) "A shout echoes from the bottom of the well." (b) A cheer given to a favorite in a play or competition. ② A voice made when adjusting the rhythm or putting in effort. (i) In Japanese music, a voice made when indicating a melody when singing or playing a song. ※Taiko Monsho (1591) "First, take care of your appearance, and second, shout from your heart." (b) A voice made when adding spirit to an opponent in martial arts or sports. ※Storybook Kanokomochi (1772) Setsugakure "The shout of "Tou-tou, where to where" (ha) The shout made to exert force and keep time when carrying, pulling, throwing, jumping, running, etc. ※Discussion book Furyu Shidokenden (1763) 3 "The shout of "Koryasa Koryasa" is like a rowing ship or a rowing boat.
