An old town in Gamo County, central Shiga Prefecture. Located in the eastern plains of Lake Biwa, it produces rice and vegetables, mainly on the reclaimed land of Lake Nakanoko. Freshwater pearls are also cultivated. Azuchiyama is the site of Oda Nobunaga's Azuchi Castle (a special historic site), and Oiso is a former post town on the Nakasendo road. The town developed around Jorakuji along the Tokaido main line. It is home to the Onakanokominami ruins, the remains of a dwelling from the mid-Yayoi period, and the Hyotanyama burial mound, estimated to date from the 4th century. Azuchiyama and the lake shore belong to Lake Biwa Quasi-National Park. It was merged with Omihachiman City in March 2010. 24.30 km2 .
