King of Pergamum. Reigned 138-133 BC. Son of Eumenes II. Succeeded Attalus II. He showed no enthusiasm for state affairs, instead devoting himself to studying poisonous plants, even writing a book about them. His will led to the kingdom of Pergamum being donated to Rome. His motives are unclear. However, his brother Aristonicus claimed the throne, gathered allies, mainly consisting of the lower classes and slaves, and fought against Rome, but was defeated (Aristonicus' Revolt). In 129 BC, the Roman province of Asia was founded here.

ペルガモン王。在位，前138‐前133年。エウメネス2世の子。アッタロス2世を継いだ。国政には熱意を示さず，有毒植物の研究に専心，著作を著すほどであった。彼の遺言によりペルガモン王国はローマに贈られることになった。動機は未詳である。だが弟アリストニコスは王位継承を主張，おもに下層民･奴隷から成る同志を集め，ローマと戦ったが敗北し(アリストニコスの反乱)，前129年この地にローマの属州アシアが建設された。
