Japanese: 鳳 - ほう

〘Noun〙 In ancient China, an imaginary auspicious bird (zuicho) . Also, the male. It has five-colored patterns on its wings, and it is said to appear when a saint or a virtuous emperor appears, so in Japan it was believed to be one of the auspicious birds. By extension, it means a saint or emperor. It is also used to describe things related to the emperor. →Feng-huang (phoenix). ※Bunka Shuurishu (818), part 1, Fenghe Shun'ei-en (Sugawara Kiyomitsu): "The flute of fire _blows from the top of the tower, and the phoenix _{is a sacred} flower.
