Bayreuth Festival - Bayreuth Festival (English: Bayreuth Festival)

Bayreuth Festival - Bayreuth Festival (English: Bayreuth Festival)

This music festival was founded in 1876 by German composer R. Wagner to stage his own music dramas. It is held every year from the end of July to the end of August at the Festival Theater in Bayreuth, Germany, which was built with the support of King Ludwig II. The theater's interior is made of wood, and the orchestra is half-submerged under the stage, which is said to have the best acoustics for his music dramas, attracting Wagner fans from all over the world. The festival brings together the best Wagner singers and conductors of the time, and is also a place for new experiments in staging. After Wagner's death, his descendants, including his wife Cosima, were deeply involved in running the festival, and especially after World War II, his grandson Wieland Wagner (1917-1966) pioneered an era in symbolic new staging.
