Atobe Village - Atobego

...The latter's importance in terms of transportation is thought to have increased after the reign of Empress Suiko, so the former is considered to be the appropriate location for the market that appears in the reign of Emperor Bidatsu. The former is the former site of Atobe-go, Shibukawa-gun, Kawachi Province, as described in the Wamyōshō, and is a strategic location located exactly halfway between the confluence of the Yamato River and Ishikawa River and Naniwa. It is said that there were many houses here, as it was also called Kuwaichi Village, and that the residence of O-ren Mononobe no Moriya and Nichira, who came from Baekje, was also located here. In 769 (Jingō Keiun 3), Empress Shōtoku opened a temporary market upstream west of Ryugeji Temple during her visit and had the people of Kawachi gather there, inspired by the nearby Atokuwa Market, and it is thought that many of the people of Kawachi were from Atokuwa City.
