Japanese: 違棚 - ちがいだな
Different shelf - Different
A shelf made of two staggered boards built into the side of the tokonoma alcove. The brace that connects the upper and lower boards is called ebi-tsuna, and the protrusion on the end of the upper board is called fude-kaeshi. Flower arrangements and ornaments are placed on it, and although there are various styles, it often has a top drawer and a bottom drawer as well. It is an architectural development of the medieval shoin-zukuri style, which was based on the zushi shelf used to store items in the shinden-zukuri style.
