…A Muslim place of worship or prayer hall. In Arabic, it is called masjid, meaning the place where prostration (sujood), which is considered the most important part of worship, is performed. In the Koran, the holy place surrounding the Kaaba in Mecca is called Masjid al-Harām (the Holy Mosque), and it is still called by that name today.
