...They range from small to large, but they all share a common feature: a flat skull top, an inverted triangular front, and parallel tusks. The Indian Ganessa elephant S. ganesa and the Chinese Yellow River elephant S. humghoemsis from the early Pliocene were extremely large, measuring 3m in shoulder height and 2.5m in tusk length. The Japanese elephant S. cf. elephantoides and S. cf. bombifrons from the same period were also large, and are considered to be closely related to those found in India and Myanmar.
