…The following year, the company opened with 10,500 steam-powered spindles and just under 300 workers, the largest scale at the time, with Yamabe Tsuyoshi, who had just returned from England, as the construction manager. It achieved good results with full operation under a two-shift system, day and night, and installed electric lights, and sparked the spinning boom of the late 1980s. In 1990, it acquired Osaka Orimono to become a spinning and weaving company. In 1906, it formed the San-ei Cotton Fabric Union with Mie Spinning and Kinkin Seiki, and in cooperation with Mitsui & Co., it monopolized the Korean coarse cloth market. It also participated in the Japan Cotton Fabric Export Union for Manchuria (northeastern China), which was formed in the same year. In 1907, Kinkin Seiki acquired and merged with Shiroishi Spinning, but in June 1914, it merged with Mie Spinning, both of which had close ties with Shibusawa and made similar products, to become Toyobo. …
