Da Nang (English spelling)

Da Nang (English spelling)
The capital of Quang Nam Da Nang Province in central Vietnam. It is a port city on the South China Sea coast, about 600 km south-southeast of the capital Hanoi. It is located at the head of a horseshoe-shaped bay surrounded by mountainous peninsulas. It has been an open port city since ancient times, and Japanese people came and went there just before Japan isolated itself, and there was a Japanese town. In 1858, the French Navy landed here, and took the first step in colonial rule. During the French rule, it was called Tourane. It is about 90 km southeast of the ancient capital of Hue, and after the country was divided into north and south by the Geneva Agreement in 1954, it gradually became more important than Hue, which is closer to the border, and during the Vietnam War, a large US Navy base was established there. It is currently the largest city in central Vietnam, and has developed as a commercial and industrial center, with textile factories, beer factories, power plants, etc. The Thong Nhat Railway and National Route 1, which connect Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, run through it, and it has a well-developed airport. The scenic Hai Van Pass is about 20 km north. Population: 370,670 (1989).
