For each article, the shakujo maker recites the opening phrase, after which everyone sings in unison and rings the shakujo at the end of the article. There are two versions, "Sanjo Shakujo" and "Kujo Shakujo." The first and second articles of the former are the same as those of the latter, and the third article is a different text with the same content as the ninth article of the latter, but the former has a more complex melody.
