There are two groups known as the Kawasaki Zaibatsu: one centered around Kawasaki Bank, and the other around Kawasaki Shipyard, but generally the term refers to the former. (1) Kawasaki (Financial) Zaibatsu A Tokyo zaibatsu mainly involved in banking, insurance, and trusts. Kawasaki Yaemon, who was an official financial supplier to the Mito domain, established Kawasaki-gumi in Tokyo in 1874 to handle foreign exchange services for government offices. With the issuance of the Banking Ordinance in 1880, it became Kawasaki Bank. In 1906, a holding company, Teitoku Limited Partnership Company (capital 3 million yen), was established, and with the help of Chitose Shokai and Kyosai-kai, it oversaw the businesses under its umbrella until 1907 when the second Yaemon took over.
