A newspaper published by the Hochisha in the early Meiji period. Planned by Maejima Mitsuru. First published in 1872. Initially published five times a month. In 1873 it became a daily newspaper. In 1874 Kurimoto Soun joined the company and it developed into a newspaper for the Freedom and People's Rights faction, with Fujita Mokichi and Yano Ryukei among its editors. In 1882, when Yano became president, it became the organ of the Constitutional Reform Party, and engaged in debates with the pro-government Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun. It later toned down its Reform Party influence, but in 1894 Miki Zenpachi became the publisher and the title was changed to Hochi Shimbun. → Related topics: Large and small newspapers | Newspapers | Hara Takashi | Hara Hoiichian | Machida Chuji Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
