This area is located in the southern part of Yamanashi Prefecture, and extends from the northern foot of Mt. Fuji to the eastern part of the Misaka Mountains. Former town name. In 1956, the four villages of Funatsu, Kodachi, Oishi, and Kawaguchi were united to form a town. In November 2003, it merged with Katsuyama Village and Ashiwada Village to form Fujikawaguchiko Town. Lake Kawaguchi is located in the center. The land is barren, covered with lava flows and volcanic ash from Mt. Fuji, and until World War II, forestry and sericulture were only carried out on the southern shore of the lake. After the war, tourism development around Lake Kawaguchi progressed, and sightseeing boats and boating sites were established. Golf courses, campsites, and amusement parks were built on the lakeside and in the surrounding hills, attracting tourists throughout the year. Funatsu, the central settlement, is the transportation hub for the northern foot of Mt. Fuji and is also the base for climbing Mt. Fuji and touring the Fuji Five Lakes. The Funatsu Tainai Tree Mold is a natural monument. It belongs to Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Fujikyu Railway, National Route 137, Route 138, and the Chuo Expressway pass through the area, and there are interchanges.Lake KawaguchiSource: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
