Mitaka [city] - Mitaka
A city in central Tokyo. Established as a city in 1950. In the Edo period, the area was home to the Otakara Grounds of the Edo shogunate and the Owari Tokugawa clan, hence the name. The Chuo Line and Keio Inokashira Line run through the area. Formerly a purely agricultural village, the area began to be converted into a residential and industrial area in the early Showa period, and developed rapidly after World War II. There are housing complexes in Mure, Shinkawa, Mitakadai, and other areas. Electrical equipment and general machinery industries are carried out here. The area includes the National Astronomical Observatory, International Christian University, and Inokashira Park, which stretches to Musashino City. Area: 16.42 km2 . Population: 186,083 (2010).

東京都中部の市。1950年市制。江戸時代,幕府や尾張徳川家の御鷹場があり,地名となった。中央線,京王井の頭線が通じる。かつて純農村であったが,昭和初年から工場地化,住宅地化が始まり,第2次大戦後急速に発展。牟礼(むれ),新川,三鷹台などには住宅団地がある。電気機器,一般機器工業が行われる。国立天文台,国際基督教大学,武蔵野市にかけて井の頭公園などがある。16.42km2。18万6083人(2010)。
