A city in central Tokyo. Established as a city in 1950. In the Edo period, the area was home to the Otakara Grounds of the Edo shogunate and the Owari Tokugawa clan, hence the name. The Chuo Line and Keio Inokashira Line run through the area. Formerly a purely agricultural village, the area began to be converted into a residential and industrial area in the early Showa period, and developed rapidly after World War II. There are housing complexes in Mure, Shinkawa, Mitakadai, and other areas. Electrical equipment and general machinery industries are carried out here. The area includes the National Astronomical Observatory, International Christian University, and Inokashira Park, which stretches to Musashino City. Area: 16.42 km2 .
