Henri Fayol

A French business manager who is considered the father of business management theory. His name should be pronounced Fayol. Born in Lyon, he attended a preparatory school for a university in Lyon and graduated from the mining school in Saint-Étienne. He joined Commendrie Fourchambault de Cesbes, where he became a mining engineer and then a director, leaving the company in 1918. His management theory, which was formed based on his experiences, (1) clarifies various types of overall management with activity planning at its apex, (2) places emphasis on the value aspects of management and forms the basis of today's budgetary management, and (3) is centered on the theory of managing groups of people with individual differences.

経営管理論の祖とされるフランスの企業経営者。正しくはファヨールと読む。リヨンに生まれ，リヨンの大学予備校を経てサンテティエンヌの鉱業学校を卒業。コマントリー･フールシャンボー･デカズビ社に入り，鉱山技師から取締役になり1918年退社。その経験をもとに形成された彼の管理論は，(1)活動計画を頂点とする各種の全体的管理を明らかにしたものであり，(2)管理の価値的側面に重点を置き，今日の予算管理の基礎をなし，(3)個人差のある人間の集団の管理の理論を中心にしている。
