Kakimoto Shrine - Kakinomoto Shrine

Located in Takatsu-cho, Masuda City, Shimane Prefecture. Enshrining Kakinomoto no Hitomaro. It is said that Hitomaro died in Iwami Province (Shimane Prefecture), and after his death, a shrine was built on Kamo Island and a betto temple, Hitomaro-dera, was built to enshrine him. The shrine later sank to the bottom of the sea in an earthquake, but in the Edo period, Kamei, the lord of Tsuwano Domain, built a shrine building at its current location. Since then, it has been highly revered by the Imperial Court and the feudal lord, and in 1723 (8th year of the Kyoho era), the 1000th anniversary of the shrine's establishment, it was given the name Kakimoto Daimyojin and the rank of Shoichi. The shrine's land area is 13 koku. Former prefectural shrine. Annual festival held on April 15th. The "Kakimoto Shrine Gohoraku Tanzaku" is a nationally important art treasure.
