Kakan - Kakan
〘Noun〙① Coming of Age Ceremony for boys. From the Nara and Heian periods through to the Middle Ages, this was a ceremony for boys around the age of 15 to signify that they were able to participate in social customs as so-called adults. They changed their clothes, tied their hair, and wore a crown. They also gave up their childhood names and took on eboshi names (= coming-of -age names/real names).
