A term used in ancient Japanese ritsuryo. When a person whose name is not registered in the family register or account book comes forward, it is called kakurekubi, and when they are uncovered by the government officials, it is called kakusedashi. According to the Yoro Code (completed in 718, enforced from 757), the increase in the number of households in the registry due to kakurekubi and kakusedashi was considered an achievement of the kokushi and gunji, along with the increase in population due to people who had fled regretting their actions and returning. The provisions of the Taiho Code (completed in 701) are unknown, but there is an example of the word kakurekubi written in the account book from 726 (Jinki 3), around the time of its enforcement.
