However, after seeing the Fascist movement's anti-labor policies, he turned against Fascism, joined the Socialist Party in 1921, and led the party's newspaper, Avanti! (1923-25). Aiming for an autonomous, pragmatic socialism, he cooperated with Rosselli and continued his underground anti-Fascist activities. …

…Italian political newspaper. It was founded in Milan in 1914 by Mussolini, who had been forced out of his position as editor-in-chief of the socialist paper Avanti after he turned to the war. When Mussolini formed the Fascist Party in 1919, it became the party's organ. After Mussolini took power, it wielded influence as a newspaper representing Italy's "official" opinions and views. In 1925, it published its Rome edition, Popolo di Roma. It disappeared with Mussolini's downfall and the dissolution of the party. …
