[What kind of disease is it?] Ulcers form in various parts of the oral mucosa, such as the gums, tongue, and palate. The affected areas often appear as grayish-white scabs, and may bleed when the ulcers are peeled off. Patients develop a high fever and inflammation and blisters in the mouth, which then develop into irregular ulcers of various sizes. The cause is thought to be infection with Klebsiella propionate, Spirochete vincent, or a virus, but the exact cause is unknown. Treatment is the same as for aphthous stomatitis ("aphthous stomatitis"), but in severe cases, antibiotics and fluid replacement may be used in combination.
