Deposit insurance - Yokinhoken

Japanese: 預金保険 - よきんほけん
Deposit insurance - Yokinhoken
This is insurance that financial institutions are required to join under the Deposit Insurance Act (Act No. 34 of 1971) to protect depositors. It is operated by the Deposit Insurance Corporation, a special corporation established with investments from the government, the Bank of Japan, and private financial institutions. Each financial institution pays insurance premiums to the Deposit Insurance Corporation equivalent to a certain percentage of the deposit amount, and in the event of the financial institution's bankruptcy, insurance payments are made to depositors up to a maximum of 3 million yen per person. Similarly, to protect depositors of agricultural and fishery cooperatives, there is deposit insurance provided by the Agriculture and Fisheries Cooperative Savings Insurance Corporation, which was established with investments from the government, the Bank of Japan, the Norinchukin Bank, the National Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives, and the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, under the Agriculture and Fisheries Cooperative Savings Insurance Act (Act No. 53 of 1973). Both of these can be considered types of public insurance aimed at protecting depositors.
