Azumagiku - Azumagiku

Japanese:
Azumagiku - Azumagiku

A perennial plant of the Asteraceae family (APG classification: Asteraceae). The stem is erect and 10-40 cm tall. The basal leaves are spatula-shaped, oblanceolate, and 1-2 cm wide. They grow in small fascicles. Two to three leaves of the same shape but smaller than the basal leaves grow alternately on the stem. From April to June, a single flower head consisting of pale purple ray flowers and yellow tubular flowers appears at the top of the stem. The flowering diameter is 3-3.5 cm, making it beautiful. It grows in the dry grasslands of Honshu from the Chubu region northward. It is not found in western Japan, but its Japanese name means that it is a chrysanthemum that is common in the Kanto region. The horticultural variety commonly called Azumagiku is Miyakowasure, which is not related to the Azumagiku mentioned here.
