A resort town in southeastern Florida, USA. Population 9,800 (1990). Located almost at the northern tip of the coastal state, sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Lake Worth to the west, it is lined with many mansions and luxurious hotels. The settlement was built in the 1870s and became a town in 1911. In 1893, Henry Flagler developed the settlement as a resort, and established West Palm Beach across Lake Worth as the resort's commercial district.
