...Most of the town area is covered by forests and fields, and it is one of the snowiest areas in the prefecture. It is the gateway to Mt. Yudono and Mt. Gassan, and the central settlement of Kaishu was once an inn for monks visiting the Dewa Sanzan mountains, but now the majority of annual tourists are skiers who enjoy summer skiing at Mt. Gassan. The area of ​​cultivated land per household is the smallest in the prefecture, and the main industries are lumber-related manufacturing and tourism.
