Opening (woven fabric) - Kaikou

Opening (woven fabric) - Kaikou

【principle】
(1) A large number of threads (called warp threads) arranged horizontally are moved up and down alternately or in a random order to separate them into two groups of threads, (2) another thread (called weft thread) is passed between them at right angles, and (3) this weft thread is advanced so that it is lined up with the previously inserted weft thread at a specified interval. (1) is called the opening, (2) is weft insertion, and (3) is weft beating. By repeating this series of movements, a woven fabric with a specified structure can be produced (Figure 1). A loom that performs these operations using hands and feet is called a hand loom or hand loom, and one that is powered is called a power loom (Figures 2-a and 2-b).
