Foreign currency financing

Japanese: 外貨金融 - がいかきんゆう

This refers to financing conducted in foreign currencies such as dollars or pounds, and is called this to distinguish it from domestic yen financing. The term foreign currency financing is used in a wide range of applications, including (1) local loans (→ local financing) for import and export financing to Japan, given to overseas branches or local subsidiaries of Japanese trading companies, (2) shippers' usance, whereby a seller in the United States or the United Kingdom is granted a payment deferral by issuing a time-limited bill, and (3) domestic loans or self-bank usance, where a foreign currency loan is made to an importer in Japan using the foreign currency funds of an exchange bank itself.

ドルやポンドなどの外国通貨で行われる金融のことで，国内の円金融と区別するためこう呼ばれる。 (1) 日本の貿易商社の海外支店や現地法人を対象として行われる対日輸出入金融などの現地貸付け (→現地金融 ) ，(2) シッパーズ・ユーザンスといわれる期限付手形の振出しにより，アメリカやイギリスの売手から支払猶予を受けるもの，(3) 日本において為替銀行みずからの外貨資金により輸入業者に対する外貨ローンが行われる本邦ローンまたは自行ユーザンスなど，外貨金融という言葉は広範囲に使用されている。
