First performed at the Takemotoza Theater in Osaka in May 1715 (Shotoku 5). The story depicts the relationship between Kaheiji, a tea bowl maker who had become acquainted with Osaga, a prostitute from Fushimi-zakamachi, Osaka, and who was being chased by debts. After his money was stolen and his reputation was tarnished by his evil friend Chosaku, Kaheiji commits a double suicide in the grounds of Ikutama Shrine. The true story is unknown. This work was created to mark the 13th anniversary of the deaths of Ohatsu and Tokubei from Sonezaki Shinju, and the overall concept is based on Sonezaki Shinju, but new emphasis is placed on the affections of Kaheiji's father, sister, and fiance, making the tragedies of the protagonists even more complex and serious. …

…(1)人形浄瑠璃。世話物。3巻。角書〈嘉平次おさが〉。近松門左衛門作。1715年(正徳5)5月大坂竹本座初演。大坂伏見坂町の遊女おさがとなじんで借金に追われていた茶碗屋の嘉平次が，悪友長作に金を奪われ名誉を傷つけられたことのために，生玉神社の境内で心中を遂げるという次第を描いたもの。実説は不明。《曾根崎心中》のお初･徳兵衛の13年忌を当て込んだ作品で，全体に《曾根崎心中》を踏まえた構想がとられているが，新しく嘉平次の父や姉，許嫁などの情愛が強調されており，主人公たちの悲劇がいっそう複雑で深刻なものとなっている。…
