New residence - Niitaru

Critic. Born in Tokushima Prefecture. After graduating from Tokyo Imperial University, he became a reporter for the Yomiuri Shimbun, Osaka Mainichi Shimbun, Tokyo Asahi Shimbun, and other newspapers. He began his writing career in 1923 (Taisho 12), but because he had been familiar with socialism since his junior high school days, he always maintained a humanistic perspective. His keen sense as a journalist was so sharp that he was described as a "sharp-edged man." The popular phrases "mobo" (modern boy) and "moga" (modern girl), which were popular in the early Showa period, were coined by him. He participated in the founding of the Japan Fabian Society (1924), but was ideologically anarchist. In 1925, he founded Bungei Hihyo, and in 1932 (Showa 7), he was involved in the founding of Freedom for Us. After World War II, he was active in citizen movements as the elected mayor of Suginami Ward in Tokyo. His works include "Left-leaning Thought" (1921) and "Anarchist Art Theory" (1930).
