Orde Bar - Ordebaru

In 1967, Suharto was made acting president by the hard-line military faction, the Student Action Front (KAMI), and others who were pushing for Sukarno's resignation, and in March of the following year, he was officially inaugurated as the second president of the Republic. The Suharto administration set out a "New System (Olde Baru)" with "development" as its national goal, and promoted an economic development policy leveraging foreign aid and foreign capital, and a foreign policy of repairing relations with Western countries. The military forces, with Suharto at their core, won landslide victories in all general elections from 1971 until January 1998.
