Shah 'Abd al-'Aziz (English spelling)

...Ideology and movement that aims for the unification of the "Islamic world." As early as 1803, Shah Wali Ullah's son Abd al-'Aziz issued a fatwa (opinion) declaring India under British rule to be Dar al-Harb (House of Fighting), expressing his sense of belonging to the Ottoman Caliphate, and in the context of the modern Muslim world, this has often been pursued in line with the concepts of the Caliphate and Dar al-Islam (House of Islam). However, the term Pan-Islamism itself was coined in Europe in the late 1870s and spread rapidly.
