Lingqiu (English spelling)

Japanese: 霊渠 - れいきょ（英語表記）Líng qú

A canal in Xing'an County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. Its original name was Lingqu, taken from the "zero" in Lingling County. It is also written as Miaoqu. It is also called the Xing'an Canal or Xianggui Canal. It connects the Xiangjiang River in Hunan and the Jijiang River in Guangxi upstream, and is 34km long. It was excavated in 214 BC when the First Emperor of Qin advanced into Guangnan (some sources say it was excavated in 219 BC). Since then, up until the Qing Dynasty, it was repaired 26 times, as recorded, and was useful for the advancement of the Han people into Guangnan and Jiaozi (Cochinchina). Its width and depth vary from 7 to 10m at the narrowest point to 45m at its widest point, and there are many semicircular stone dou-mon gates (do-mon) to regulate the water level.

中国，広西チワン(壮)族自治区興安県にある運河。零陵郡の零をとった零渠が原名。澪渠とも書す。興安運河，湘桂運河ともいう。湖南の湘江と広西の灕江（りこう）を上流で結び，全長34km。秦の始皇帝の広南進出にともない，前214年に開削された(開削の時期については前219年とする説もある)。以後，清代まで記録に残るだけで26回の修復がくり返され，漢民族の広南，交趾(コーチシナ)への進出に役立った。広さと水深には差があるが，狭部で7～10m，最広部は45m，その間水位調節のため半円形の石の斗門(陡門)が数多く設けられている。
