A former town in Iwafune County, northern Niigata Prefecture. Occupying the alluvial plain at the mouth of the Arakawa River, it is a producer of early-season rice, and tulips and crocuses are also cultivated on the sand dunes. Saka Town, in the center of the town, is a transportation hub where the Uetsu Main Line and the Yonesaka Line split off. In April 2008, it was incorporated into Murakami City along with Kanbayashi Village, Asahi Village, and Yamakita Town in Iwafune County. 36.71 km2 . Population: 11,105 (2005).
