A writer of ukiyo-zoshi and haiku poet in the mid-Edo period. His surname was Hojo and given name Yoshinobu. His other pen names included Byakugan Koji and Kakeidō. He was from Kyoto and a disciple of Ihara Saikaku. After Saikaku's death, he stayed in Saikaku's old hermitage for seven years and published his posthumous manuscripts, including Saikaku Okisousan and Saikaku Ori-dome. He himself followed in his teacher's footsteps and wrote ukiyo-zoshi. His works include Chuya Yojinki, Nihon Shin Eitaigura, and Budo Harai Daikan. He was also known as a composer of zappai. 江戸中期の浮世草子作者,俳人。姓は北条,名は義延。別号は白眼居士,滑稽堂など。京都の人。井原西鶴の弟子。西鶴死後,7年間その旧庵を守り,遺稿の《西鶴置土産》《西鶴織留》などを刊行。自らも師の流れをうけ,浮世草子を作る。作品は《昼夜用心記》《日本新永代蔵》《武道張合大鑑》など。また雑俳の点者としても知られる。
