Iori signboard
〘Noun〙 One of the signs at a Kabuki theater. A wooden board with the actor's name and family crest written on it, with a hermitage shape on top. At first it was only used for actors who were performing in Kamigata-Kudari and actors who were making occasional appearances, but later it came to include the name of the actor and the author. 〘名〙 歌舞伎劇場の看板の一つ。役者の名と家紋とを書いた木板の上に庵形をつけたもの。はじめは上方くだりの役者や、臨時出演の役者に限って用いたが、後には名題役者から作者まで掲げるようになった。また、これに名を掲げることのできる上位の役者をさしていうこともある。いおり。※随筆・後はむかし物語(1803)「御操といふ庵り看板は」
