...chromatic aberration is a phenomenon in which the refractive index of an optical material varies with the wavelength of light (dispersion), resulting in the image having color bleeding or color fringing. This is called chromatic aberration.
[Seidel's five aberrations]
Ludwig Philipp von Seidel (1821-96) of Germany classified aberrations into five types based on the symmetry around the optical axis of a coaxial spherical system (an optical system in which the centers of curvature of each refracting surface are aligned in a straight line) for monochromatic light. These are spherical aberration, coma, curvature of field, astigmatism, and distortion, and are called Seidel's five aberrations (although these five are sometimes called spherical aberrations in the broad sense).
