Omaezaki Plateau

...The plateau is divided into three levels, but the middle level is the widest, and its planar shape is dendritic, with many local names such as Chojabaru, Taniguchibaru, and Akadobaru. The Omaezaki Plateau at the southern end is an uplifted sea-eroded plateau with marine gravel layers, and Sakabebaru, where Mount Takao and Mount Takane are located, is a plateau with a higher level. The plateau was not blessed with water resources and was a wilderness where grass was harvested under common ownership, but in 1869 (Meiji 2), former Shogunate vassal Nakajo Kageaki led a new group to settle there with the aim of providing employment for the samurai class, and began cultivating tea plantations. Later, Oigawa Kawagoe laborers led by Maruo Bunroku also settled there....

…台地面は3段に区分されるが中位面が広く，その平面形は樹枝状にのび，長者原，谷口原，赤土原など局地的名称も多い。南端の御前崎台地は海成礫層ののる隆起海食台であり，高尾山や高根山のある坂部原は高位面の台地である。台地は水利に恵まれず，入会採草地の原野であったが，1869年(明治2)士族授産の目的で旧幕臣の中条景昭が新番組を率いて入植し，茶園の開墾を始め，のちに大井川川越人足も丸尾文六に率いられて入植した。…
