A nobleman and poet of the Azuchi-Momoyama and Edo periods. Son of Karasuma Mitsunobu. After serving as Kurodo no kami, he became a councilor in 1606 and Sadaiben in 1614. In the same year, he was implicated in an adultery case involving five court ladies and seven nobles (the Inokuma Incident) and was punished by Emperor Goyozei, but fortunately he was found not guilty and in 1616 he was pardoned by Emperor Gomizunoo and returned to his post. In 1617 he became a provisional chuunagon and in 1616 he became a provisional dainagon. He studied waka poetry under Hosokawa Yusai and was taught the Kokinshu style of waka poetry, mastering the study of waka poetry in the Nijo school. In addition to the "Kouyou Wakashu," he also had connections with cultural figures such as Tawaraya Sotatsu and Hon'ami Koetsu, as well as Tokugawa Ieyasu and Iemitsu, and wrote travel writings about his travels to and from Edo, such as "Azuma no michi no ki" and "Nikkosan kikou." He was buried at Nishigamo Reigenji Temple and later moved to Rakusai Hounji Temple.

安土桃山・江戸時代の公卿,歌人。烏丸光宣の子。蔵人頭を経て慶長11(1606)年参議,同14年に左大弁となる。同年,宮廷女房5人と公卿7人の姦淫事件(猪熊事件)に連座して後陽成天皇の勅勘を蒙るが,運よく無罪となり,同16年に後水尾天皇に勅免されて還任。同17年権中納言,元和2(1616)年権大納言となる。細川幽斎に和歌を学び古今を伝授されて二条家流歌学を究め,歌集に『黄葉和歌集』があるほか,俵屋宗達,本阿弥光悦などの文化人や徳川家康,家光と交流があり,江戸往復時の紀行文に『あづまの道の記』『日光山紀行』などがある。西賀茂霊源寺に葬られ,のちに洛西法雲寺に移された。<参考文献>小松茂美『烏丸光広』
