A shield-like landform centered on Sweden and Finland, including southern Norway and parts of Russia. It is widely covered by sedimentary rocks from the Palaeozoic era onwards, but has been extensively studied as the largest distribution area in Europe of Precambrian rocks, and rocks dating back approximately 3.5 to 3 billion years are known to exist on the Kola Peninsula at the northern end of the country.
