Onondaga - Onondaga tribe

...the general term for the Indians who lived in the forests of northeastern North America and who spoke Iroquois languages. Among them, five tribes (later six tribes, including the Tuscarora, joined) formed the Iroquois Confederacy. The Iroquois Confederacy is widely known due to the research of L.H. Morgan. The tribes that made up the confederacy lived in the St. Lawrence River basin, around Lake Ontario, and around Lake Erie.
