hemichorea

Japanese: hemichorea
hemichorea

[Other chorea]
In addition to the above, symptomatic chorea-like involuntary movements may occur due to infectious diseases such as measles and diphtheria, pregnancy, carbon monoxide poisoning, systemic lupus erythematosus, and polycythemia. Chorea-like movements on one side may suddenly occur in middle-aged and elderly people due to vascular disorders in the basal ganglia, and this is called hemichorea. In addition, in elderly people over 60 years of age, chorea-like movements may begin without intellectual disability or genetic association, and pathologically, relatively mild degeneration of nerve cells in the caudate nucleus and putamen may be observed, and this is called senile chorea.
