Gold Chain
〘 noun 〙① A chain made of gold. Also, a chain made to resemble gold. ※Ordinary Elementary School Reader (1887)〈Ministry of Education〉 Volume 7 "'The king asked, 'To what realm is this?' as he took out the gold chain from the watch."② A tall tree of the legume family. Native to Europe, it is cultivated for decorative purposes. The trunk grows to a height of about six meters. The branches and leaves are densely covered with soft hairs. The leaves are long-stalked, compound, and alternate, divided into three ovate leaflets. In summer, long stalks emerge from the leaf axils, and numerous yellow butterfly-shaped flowers grow in clusters. The fruit is a linear pod that grows to a length of about five centimeters. Kinrenka. Kibana Fuji.

Kanagusari [gold chain]

〘名〙① 金でつくった鎖。また、金に似せてつくった鎖。※尋常小学読本(1887)〈文部省〉七「王、『さらば、これは、何界に』と、時計の金ぐさりを出しつつ問はれしに」② マメ科の高木。ヨーロッパ原産で、観賞用に栽植される。幹は高さ約六メートルになる。枝や葉には軟毛が密生する。葉は長柄があり、卵形の三つや小葉に分かれた複葉で、互生する。夏、葉腋から長い花柄を出し、黄色の蝶形花を総状に多数つける。果実は線形の莢(さや)で長さ約五センチメートルになる。きんれんか。きばなふじ。

かな‐ぐさり【金鎖】

〘名〙 金属製の鎖。かなつがり。※書紀(720)継体二四年九月(寛文版訓)「百済則ち奴湏久利を捉(かす)ゐて、杻(あしかし)・械(てかし)・枷(くひかし)・鎖(カナクサリ)して」※古今著聞集(1254)九「金鏁を取り出(いだし)て、よく逃げぬ様にしたためてけり」
